It is estimated that one in five individuals has dyslexia, and two-thirds of students with Developmental Language Disorder have dyslexia. Yet most speech-language pathologists are not confident in supporting students with this learning difference.
This 60 minute mini-course will provide an overview of dyslexia specifically as it relates to speech and language.
Participants in this course will be able to:
Define reading, decoding, and dyslexia;
Explain to parents and colleagues why dyslexia is considered a language-based disorder;
Synthesize the relationship between dyslexia, developmental language disorder, and speech sound disorders;
Understand ASHA and state-specific guidance in regardance to diagnosing and treating dyslexia;
Describe the role of the SLP in supporting literacy and dyslexia.
Broken up into 7 bite-sized videos no more than 10 minutes each, this mini course is only one hour long. Self-pace over time or binge; either way, you will be confident and competent to support students with dyslexia in less than 60 minutes!
