The PreReading SLP Course: Overview

A: Course Introduction.

Welcome! In this module we will learn how to navigate the course.

B: Reading Science Foundations

Upon completion participants will be able to define reading, explain the reading brain, and discuss the similarities and differences between speaking and reading.

C: SLPs and Word Reading

This module demystifies the connections between speech sound disorders, developmental language disorder, late talking, and reading difficulty. The importance of phonemic awareness and definition of phonics is presented.

D: Assessment

Learn how to establish a baseline for students’ pre-reading knowledge as well as identify critical junctures to progress monitor.

E: Setting Goals & Caregiver Communication

Templates for IEP goals and communicating with caregivers are presented as long as tips for modifications and personalizations.

F: Letter Sound Motions

Pairing sound, symbols, and kinesthetic gross motor movements allows faciliates multimodal learning.

G: The Reading SLP Lesson

This module unpacks the critical components of PreReading SLP lesson, including intensieve review and literacy based therapy opportunities. All of the lesson planning has been done for you; once you complete this module you will be able to print and immediately suport your students!
