Calling all SLPs….

Did you know that students with speech-language difficulties are twice as likely to face reading challenges? Did you know that ASHA says SLPs play a critical role in helping students develop reading?

Let's dive into the world of reading together! Decoding and linguistic comprehension are the two key processes in reading. While SLPs are experts in linguistic comprehension, teaching decoding may not have been emphasized during our graduate programs.

In this course, SLPs will learn a structured, sequential, multisensory approach to teaching decoding. We'll cover everything from phonemic awareness to speech sound instruction, including how to teach closed and open syllables, vowel teams, and r-controlled vowels!

But wait, there's more! Course participants also receive my Easy 3 Lesson Plan template, a Roadmap to Reading for decoding skills, an IEP Goal Bank, a ReadingSLP Assessment, and over 20 pre-planned lessons that are ready to print and go!

The Reading SLP Course: Overview

A: Course Introduction.

Welcome! In this module we will learn how to navigate the course.

B: Reading Science Foundations

Upon completion participants will be able to define reading, explain the reading brain, discuss the similarities and differences between speaking and reading, and advocate the importance of SLPs’ involvement in literacy.

C: The Word Reading SLP

This module demystifies the barriers many SLPs face in learning about reading. We will discuss “structured literacy” and how this approach, which The Reading SLP follows, leads to incredible student outcomes.

D: The Reading SLP Manual

Get access to The Reading SLP Manual, a 148 page PDF (with digital links) full of all materials you will need to implement structured literacy instruction. This manual is valued at $85 dollars and available exclusively to course participants.

E: Lesson Fundamentals

Here you will be introduced to the Roadmap to Reading, learning how literacy develops from phonological awareness in the early years to morphological awareness and multisyllabic decoding in later years. You will also learn the fundamental components of a structured literacy Reading SLP lesson.

F: Roadmap to Reading Steps

Learn how to teach open and closed syllables, consonant blends, welded sounds, vowel teams, magic e syllables, and vowel teams. Uncover the importance of phonemic awareness and auditory processing in reading all syllable types.

G: The Reading SLP Assessment

Conclude with information on how to use the two-part assessment tool to benchmark and progress monitor. You will have the opportunity to practice administering and scoring the assessment in two simulations.
